Un deslizamiento mortal en Malawi ha provocado al menos 3 muertos, 9 heridos y 5 desaparecidos. Este fenómeno natural extremo tuvo lugar en el distrito de Rumphi, en la región Norte del país a primera hora del 20 de abril de 2019.
Las fuertes lluvias registradas en la zona, movieron las rocas y
provocaron el alud, dejando al menos 20 casas dañadas, viviendas,
colegios e infraestructuras públicas.
Según fuentes oficiales, la
zona afectada no era accesible por carretera por lo que resultaba
imposible organizar una operación de rescate.
El Coordinador de
Desastres, informaba que las autoridades tenían previsto transportar
equipo pesado de excavación a través del lago, en cuanto el tiempo lo
permitiera.
Un equipo de rescate de las Fuerzas de Defensa de
Malawi y el Servicio de Policía de Malawi ya se encuentran en la zona
para buscar a los desaparecidos. Por su parte, el Departamento de
Disaster Management Affairs de Malawi ha enviado materiales de
supervivencia como alimentos y utensilios de cocina entre las viviendas
afectadas, así como apoyo económico para cubrir los gastos médicos de
los heridos y los gastos funerarios de los fallecidos.
