Resulta difícil imaginar cuál podría haber sido la causa de que un ferry quedara encallado al llegar al puerto de Denia, hoy en día, teniendo en cuenta las tecnologías tan avanzadas que existen en la navegación. Sin embargo, así ha sucedido y los 393 pasajeros que fueron evacuados de noche, de 30 en 30, en embarcaciones de Salvamento Marítimo, Guardia del Mar, Practico de Denia y el remolcador de Balearia, no pudieron evitar llevarse el mayor susto de sus vidas.
Sucedió cuando estaban llegando al puerto. El ferry rápido Pinar del Río, de la empresa Balearia, había salido desde Palma de Mallorca y estaba a punto de atracar en el puerto de Denia, cuando un inusual ruido brusco hizo presagiar a sus ocupantes que algo había sucedido. Especialmente, cuando vieron cómo la tripulación se ponía los chalecos salvavidas y les pedían hacer lo mismo. Para algunos, fueron momentos de auténtico pánico, ya que el barco empezó a crujir y a hacer un “crac” que les pareció interminable.
En un primer momento, la tripulación informó que iban a remolcar el barco a puerto porque había surgido “un problema”, pero posteriormente avisaron por altavoces de que la cosa era más grave y que tenían que ser evacuados.
Eran las 23:20 horas (hora local) y, por circunstancias no confirmadas, el ferry había encallado. Afortunadamente, nadie había resultado herido. Sin embargo, las cerca de dos horas que tuvieron que permanecer muchos de ellos en su interior, esperando ser evacuados, fue una auténtica pesadilla. Sin aire acondicionado, con mucho calor, y con niños que lloraban y estaban asustados, la situación no era para nada agradable. Los que llevaban bebés, ni siquiera contaban con chalecos salvavidas de su talla, por lo que la angustia era evidente.
Además, el rescate había sido a cuentagotas hasta que se unieron Salvamento Marítimo y la Guardia Civil. Aún así, algunos no lograron pisar tierra hasta las dos de la madrugada.
Llegar a puerto tampoco fue el final de esta aventura inesperada a la que no se había apuntado nadie de forma voluntaria. No había ni una sola plaza libre de hotel en 100 kilómetros a la redonda, ni taxis disponibles, y la empresa del ferry no se hacía cargo de su alojamiento, por lo que algunos tuvieron que dormir sobre un banco.
Los 70 vehículos que viajaban a bordo no pudieron ser desembarcados con sus propietarios, como tampoco los enseres personales de cada uno de ellos, por lo que la empresa dispuso autobuses para trasladar a su pasaje y prometió contactarles para entregarles sus pertenencias.
Una empresa de servicios subacuáticos está evaluando los daños que ha sufrido el casco de estribor, con el fin de consensuar un plan para reflotar la nave y trasladarla a puerto, donde podrán desembarcar los vehículos para su posterior entrega a sus dueños. Al mismo tiempo, Salvamento Marítimo tenía previsto desplegar la barrera anticontaminación a primera hora de esta mañana de domingo, de forma preventiva, con objeto de evitar cualquier posible vertido de combustible.
