El 5 de septiembre de 2019, se formaba la tormenta tropical “Faxai” en el océano Pacífico, como la tormenta número 15 en la temporada de tifones del Pacífico de 2019.
A las 06:00 horas (UTC) del 5 de septiembre, Faxai se encontraba a unos 1.685 kilómetros (1.05 millas) de Iwo To, en Japón, con vientos máximos sostenidos de 65 kilómetros por hora (40 millas por hora), y ráfagas de hasta 95 kilómetros por hora (60 millas por hora) y una presión barométrica central de 1002 hPa. El sistema se desplaza a unos 19 kilómetros por hora (12 millas por hora).
Se prevé que Faxai siga su curso y que después gire más hacia al noroeste tras 48 horas.
Las condiciones favorables del medio ambiente en el que se encuentre, harán que pueda ganar intensidad hasta mantener vientos de 167 kilómetros por hora (103 millas por hora hora) el 8 de septiembre de 2019, a las 09:00 horas (UTC).
Se prevé que entre en tierra en Tokio sobre las 12:00 horas (UTC) del 8 de septiembre de 2019.
