Para sorpresa de quienes lo han vivido, miles de mosquitos se han unido formando “tornados de insectos” que se mueven por el cielo. Un fenómeno mucho más intenso y duradero que de costumbre y que ha dejado anonadados a los residentes de Ust-Kamchatsk, en Kamchatka, Rusia. Ventanas, casas y vehículos se han visto cubiertos por mosquitos. Algunos de los habitantes no se han atrevido a salir de casa durante al menos tres días.
Además, cuando esta invasión suele durar de 2 a 3 días, este año, el fenómeno se ha superado a sí mismo durando más de 10 días, convirtiéndose en toda una plaga.
Curiosamente, se trata de mosquitos macho. Por lo tanto, no pican. Sin embargo, su gran número, posiblemente millones de ellos, dificulta bastante la circulación o simplemente caminar por las calles, ya que se meten en los ojos, la boca, la nariz…
El tornado se forma debido a que los mosquitos macho luchan por conseguir a una hembra que se encuentra en el medio del enjambre, por lo tanto, en realidad se trata de una formación amorosa.
Kamchatka este verano parece experimentar un verano mucho más cálido y húmedo, lo que ha contribuido a que se formen más tornados de este tipo.
