El Servicio de Seguridad de Ucrania (SBU) ha informado que se ha descubierto una fuente de contaminación radioactiva en la región de Zhytomyr, al norte de Ucrania. Los materiales ionizantes se almacenaron ilegalmente en una planta local abandonada.
La oficina de prensa de la SBU ha informado el miércoles que los elementos radioactivos, concretamente Crypton-85, se almacenaron en las instalaciones de producción de la empresa local. Sin embargo, la licencia de esta planta expiró, por lo que al parecer se estaban guardando ilegalmente.
El material radioactivo ha sido incautado y entregado a una empresa estatal especializada para que los expertos puedan realizar una investigación y, a continuación, desechar estos materiales correctamente.
