El clima no está cumpliendo con lo previsto en el calendario. Este mes, la zona europea del norte de Rusia ha sufrido un frío extremo que ha registrado temperaturas mínimas de récord. Los termómetros han bajado a los -40ºC (-40ºF), e incluso por debajo. Al mismo tiempo, las heladas se intensificaron desde la península de Kola hasta Vorkuta.
Estas temperaturas inusualmente frías han congelado la zona norte europea de Rusia a mediados del mes de marzo. Las imágenes son sorprendentes y muestran ciudades con edificios y casas abandonadas, engullidas bajo una gran cantidad de nieve.
En la región de Murmansk, el termómetro ha registrado unas temperaturas históricas de -34,5ºC (-30,1ºF). Por su parte, en la región de Vorkuta, se registraron -40ºC (-40ºF9 y en algunas zonas, incluso más bajas.
El pasado miércoles, 10 de marzo de 2021, Syktyvkar batió su temperatura mínima histórica, establecida en 1908 cuando el termómetro marcó -32,5ºC (-26,5ºF). Por su parte, en San Petersburgo, los termómetros han registrado -20,3ºC, superando el récord de hace 50 años.
Según han explicado desde el departamento de Meteorología del Centro de Hidrometeorología y Monitoreo Medioambiental de la República de Komi, este clima inusualmente frío ha sido debido a la invasión de un aire ultra polar, procedente del Ártico, a través del mar de Kara.
