Uruguay ha vivido horas angustiosas debido a las inundaciones masivas provocadas por las intensas lluvias en Montevideo y Canelones. Miles de usuarios sufrieron apagones eléctricos, las calles quedaron inundadas y vehículos y viviendas se vieron afectadas. Así lo han confirmado desde la Dirección del Sistema Nacional de Emergencias del país. Las intensas lluvias afectaron principalmente a Montevideo y Canelones.
El Instituto Nacional de Meteorología de Uruguay (Inumet) actualizó las alertas naranjas y amarillas por lluvias intensas hasta el mediodía, debido a las fuertes tormentas y lluvias torrenciales. Según Inumet, se registraron entre 50 y 100 mm en Montevideo y entre 50 y 120 mm en Canelones.
Entre las 05:00 y las 07:00 horas, hora local, las lluvias fueron más intensas. Llovió mucho más en unas horas que lo que suele llover en todo un mes.
Como consecuencia de las fuertes lluvias y las inundaciones, numerosas zonas sufrieron apagones eléctricos.
Las previsiones meteorológicas han indicado que la inestabilidad atmosférica iba a continuar durante la semana, trasladándose de sur al este y, a continuación, hacia el centro, este y norte del país durante unos siete a diez días.
